Your (carry on only, right?!) bag is packed, you’re ready to go! 🧳 But first, have you properly secured your home? I just got back from vacation so this is on the forefront of my mind!

Here are a few ways to vacation proof your home so you can truly relax while you’re away:

-Lock all doors and windows. 🚪

-Set your alarm security system & contact alarm company.🚨

-Look ahead at upcoming weather. Rain in the forecast? Well if you live in LA probably not, but if so, make sure you bring in anything that you don’t want to get wet and have your gardener adjust your sprinkler/irrigation system accordingly. ☔️

-Tell a trusted neighbor and ask them to keep an eye on your place. (I used to ask a friend, but friends have to drive to your home. It’s easier to ask your next door neighbor. They are RIGHT THERE, and you can always return the favor for them!)

-Unplug TV’s, computers, lamps, appliances, and whatever else that may be affected in case of a power surge.📺

-Speaking of unplugging, do not share vacation pics on social media in real time! 📸

-Make it look like someone is home. Have your outdoor lights on and a random light inside–you can use an inexpensive timer for this. 💡

-Secure your valuables in a safe deposit box or leave with a trusted friend or family member. 💎

-Pause all deliveries until you return. If any packages arrive while you’re gone, ask the same neighbor to grab them! (I usually give my neighbor a nice bottle of wine or an Amazon gift card upon my return. I get a LOT of packages 📦😜)
